By joining this activity you will…

  • Have an in-depth presentation about coral reefs

Duration: 6 hours

 

By joining this activity you will…

  • Have an in-depth presentation about mangroves
  • Go on a boat tour to our neighboring island Nusa Lembongan
  • Plant young mangroves in a destroyed area of the mangrove forest
  • Enjoy lunch at the nearby watchtower
  • Conduct a tour through a healthy old mangrove forest by boat or canoe
  • Look for new mangrove seedlings to stock up our nursery

  • Hear an in-depth presentation about seaweed
  • Submerge into the live of our local seaweed farmers
  • Have a hands-on activity through the whole process of seaweed farming
  • Have a delicious local lunch together
  • Drive to the stunning Diamond Beach, where you can enjoy the view or go for a swim

  • Visit one of our local schools
  • Conduct educational activities like teaching English or basic marine ecology, waste management, etc.
  • Do a beach cleanup and spread environmental awareness
  • Teach them swimming, play games together, or learn Balinese dancing from them
  • Take part in our coral reef restoration activity after lunch

Marine Conservation Internship

 
 

Our program combines daily conservation and education activities with tourism activities of your choice. You will have a great impact while exploring the most magnificent places and most authentic cultural events.

Our internship will teach you all aspects of successful marine conservation. You will experience coastal ecosystem rehabilitation, a blue local economy, environmental education, and ecotourism.

Accommodation

As a volunteer, you are invited to stay at KulKul Bungalows, a cozy and welcoming spot just a short walk from our basecamp. It’s the perfect place to relax after a day of conservation work, surrounded by nature and plenty of great restaurants. Solo travelers will stay in the shared dormitory, while those coming together or looking for more privacy can enjoy a private bungalow. With a friendly atmosphere and everything you need nearby, it’s the ideal home base for your time on the island!

Ecotourism Nusa Penida was created by our conservation community Nuansa Pulau, which is committed to protecting our environment since 2017. Since then, we have planted more than 95000 corals.

We are very passionate about conservation and sharing our knowledge and culture with our guests.

With Ecotourism Nusa Penida we aim to upscale our social and environmental impact while spreading awareness about the topics important to us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, we can organise a free pick up at hotels in 4km distance to our basecamp. We can still have you picked up if you are staying further away than 4km for an extra charge of 50.000 IDR.

To join one full week of sustainable tourism, we charge 9.000.000 IDR per person, children younger than 15 pay 7.800.000 IDR, and infants to the age of 5 are free to join.

It includes accommodation, breakfast and lunch, all transportation, equipment, one local barbeque, donations to the school and the seaweed farmers, and the constant maintenance of your rehabilitated habitat.

Boats leaving from Bali will start most likely from Sanur. The last boat from Sanur leaves at 5 pm but you are recommended to be there at least 45 minutes before. 

We are happy to assist you in organising your trip regardless if you stay for a day or weeks.

Our activities are meant to be for everybody, and we can easily adapt to certain needs of our guest.

Our requirements:

  1. Basic swimming skills
  2. No critical heart conditions
  3. Be a kind person

Unfortunately, our mangrove and coral activities are also not barrier-free. However, if you want to join and need special assistance, we are more than happy to try everything we can to make it work for you.

Our program does not require SCUBA diving.

All coral activities are happening in shallow water between 1,5m to 3,5m and are easily accessible with snorkeling equipment.

If you volunteer with us for more than one week and you want to SCUBA dive, we can host for your second and third week:
